good deeds

2 Thessalonians 2:16-17
(KJV)
Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.
(NIV)
May our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gaveus eternal encouragement and good hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word.

I have often thought why is it that when I complete some sort of favour or good deed for someone (i.e. when I stop being selfish for a moment), that I feel good about it.

I feel favoured.

Strange it is that I should be the one that feels the good favour, when I am the one helping and not the one being helped (or “favoured”).

I think that this verse reveals the answer to why I feel this way in this situation. It says that the Lord Jesus, and God the Father, will encourage or comfort our hearts and strengthen us in every good work.

It makes a bit more sense now.
